Welcome to "Giorgio that's Italian: Being my first post I wanted to introduce myself. I was born and raised in Detroit and food has always been a part of my life. As far back as I can remember I was attracted to the kitchen, my grandmother (Nona) would be cooking food and I was always under her feet wanting to watch, the smell of fresh bread cooking in the morning, or the smell of pasta sauce cooking over low heat are sweet memories of my childhood. I learned at an early age that if I wanted to eat more than everyone else in the house was to be in the kitchen helping Nona. In her broken English I would learn the ingredients to make bread, with a slap on the backside of my head for not listening or a wak with a wooden spoon I learned the art of cooking Italian. No measuring spoons were ever used it was always in the palm of her hand and a spoken word, "thisa much" never more or less just thisa much. I still to this day rely on her Nonas words when measuring ingredients into a dish. What I have learned over the years is cooking is a passion. Understanding what comes first in a dish and building on the ingredients to create a dish Nona would be proud of has been my life. I hope through my posts I can provide you with a desire to make your parents proud. Let the cooking begin
Giorgio
